On Tuesday, the weather forecast called for stormy weather on Wed. Should we cancel our Tournament? Will the Weather co-operate and allow us to demonstrate our ability to play the fantastic sport of Ultimate?
We looked closely, and saw that the storm would not come until after 2:00pm, so we made the call to continue.
Wednesday, the skies were blue and clear. A yellow bus appeared at Bendale at approximately 9:20 and out came 16 students and one teacher from Highland Creek.
We welcomed them, did some warm up time and went over rules and basic strategies.
We then played a practice game to see what skills we needed to focus upon and how the style would be. With that, we mixed both Bendale and Highland Creek up to create the teams. No longer was it the Huskies v the Bobcats, it was Red v Yellow.
They played. They talked. They laughed. They coached. They officiated. They explained.
They had fun.
Then we played another game: Highland Creek v. Bendale. Next game was much better, as both teams were comfortable and understood each other's playing style.
At the end of the 2nd game, CRACK! Skies opened up, but alas, it was lunch.
During lunch, more rain, thunder and lightning hit. We decided to call it quits, and watch a movie until highland Creek's bus arrived.
Just before the end of lunch, the skies cleared. Mr. Sun came out to dry up our field, and we went out for a final match. Not Bendale v Highland Creek..... RED v Yellow.
The skill development, the team building and the friendships forged along with the sun shining created a mix that would allow for the final battle.
The game was close. The bus arrived. Bendale bid farewell to Highland Creek. Students arrived, but Ultimate players left.
Thanks for an amazing time!
