Forest of Reading Club
Blue Spruce (Grade 1-4), Sliver Birch
(Grade 4/6) and Red Maple (Grade 7/8)
The
Forest of Reading Club will be starting at Highland Creek P.S. Our first
meeting will be on Monday
February 29, 2016 at lunch time. The club will meet on a weekly
basis, depending on the number of the registrants. During club meetings we will
be reading books and discussing them both in person and online, in our ‘Forest
of Reading Google Classroom’.
A
BIG thank you to the School Council who supported the school to purchase Forest
of Reading books this year. We were able
to purchase nominated books (ten books for each category) for the following
categories:
Blue
Spruce, Silver Birch Express, Silver Birch Fiction, Silver Birch Non-Fiction and
Red maple
To take a
look at the books in each group, please visit the following website:
For each category,
there are ten books that students must read by the middle of April 2016.
These books were chosen by the Ontario Librarian’s Association (OLA).
Upon completion of reading the ten books in their group, Blue Spruce, Silver
Birch or Red Maple, the students will have an opportunity to vote on their
favourite book.
Students
from across Ontario are involved in this program, and will vote on the books
too. In mid-May there will be a big celebration and announcement of the
book winners that students will hopefully be able to view online.
Please return the bottom portion of this paper to your
child’s teacher by Tuesday February 23, 2016. A schedule will be posted by the
library door and on the school blog later next week or as soon as all the forms
are back.
